your heart felt good
it was drippin pitch and made of wood
it’s been a really good couple of days. well, weeks really. ever since the arizona trip. which i don’t know that I’ve written about...
but that might not happen. I’ve been horrible about writing. but the past 5 days have been a wonderful mark of the beginning of summer. no, really. my heart is warming at an exponential rate. my skin is a bit on the red side, but the heat feels good.
and I’m listening to my wonderful modest mouse right now, and they do make me happy. i saw them in vancouver on Wednesday night in a theater with seats. it was a great show, but the energy was strange.
then last night, i saw them at the sasquatch festival at the gorge. this show has stuck with me like few shows do. i mean, i keep getting vivid, totally detailed flashbacks of specific moments. i was just so happy to be at my favorite venue seeing this band who i have fallen so deeply for play at a kick ass festival. and they did so well. and the energy was SO good. and I’m so excited for them to be at bonnaroo. it’s going to be SUCH a good experience for them. the jam band scene is totally not theirs. they’re not a live band. i mean...they don’t do the extensive touring, and they’re not always tight, and i think issac(isaac? fuck...) might truly be somewhat of a shit, but they are maturing. and they’re starting to jam more. and it’s good!
and damn, yes, i do love that lead singer of theirs. he is deliciously tormented and beautiful.
Friday night, we had a party. yes, it’s been about two months, so it was time. what were we celebrating this time(current tally runs at: micha’s going away, joe’s birthday, my birthday and aaron’s going away)? the fact that i had Saturday off, so we could! it was a “hop skip and get naked” party, the aforementioned being one of my favorite party drinks.
I’ve decided i love party drinks. but anyway.
hop skip and get naked is a drink made in a cooler with a shitload of beer, a handle of vodka, a handle of SoCo, lime-aid and some powdered sugar.
(sidenote: oh man. there’s drama at work.)
(another side note. “dark side of the universe” just reminded me again how much i love this band).
add some ice and it’s the makings of a great drink that tends to totally deliver when it comes to living up to it’s name. it was a fantastic combination of people and spirits and craziness and love. me and megs and jen and josh had killer pow wow in my room. both david’s were there, and i adore them both more than i can say for such completely different reasons. joe joe made his entrance climbing over the rooftop out back and onto our deck, making the mom in me come out big time. megan’s crazy work people showed up, which was such a trip. allison was there, and jesse and aaron was back...

(about sasquatch)
and we got to see arcade fire.
now, when first josh played this band for me a few days ago, it was in the middle of the museum, and i had headphones on. and i actually giggled out loud while listening without reguard to what my giggling sounded like or how loud it was. i was EXCITED. it’s rare that you get that into a song on your first listen, especially of a band you’ve never heard before. i proceeded to listen to a few more songs, and definitely understood the hype.
their set yesterday was totally worth the sunburn I’m dealing with today. it was intense. it was fun. it was complex and engaging and felt with all the lightness in my soul. their violinist rocks(so did her bright turquoise blue legging things.). the way they all do eachothers jobs and play all the instruments. their enthusiasm. their tight, tight sound. i was just so impressed.
as i said above, modest was a killer experience. i was just ridiculously happy, and couldn’t stop smiling. and it’s not like they’re happy go lucky songs or something. even the large amount of “seize the day” theme is conveyed in devil tones and fuck yous.
oh, but watching that brock boy move. oh, glory glory halelujah, i love that total self-posession that comes with a truly gifted front man. the way this guy moves his body, out of total rage and passion and need to override anything else going on in that space is so entertaining to watch. and yeah, a turn on as well.
kanye west was a joke. the end. but OH, the sunset.
we layed on the lawn and listened to the pixies do their set. watched the stars.
and then we couldn’t find the car and wandered around for a good 45 minutes, but whatever. joshie dealt with me and my roomie’s crazy, laid back, totally up in the air last minute road trip style like a pro. well, not a pro. we definitely threw him off to some extent, but it was good for him. he loves us. and it’s great. :)
and there’s so much going on in dmbland. and big time stuff in work land.
dmb’s new album is amazing. it is AMAZING. it is probably my second favorite as of right now, and i don’t see that enthusiasm going away. it is so different and it literally forces me to move(it is the best walking cd of all time). it is beautifully political and I’m so glad they’re finally biting the bullet and not worrying about offending. it’s about damned time they showed that if you understand the concepts this music touches, you cannot fucking let your mind be closed and cocooned in fear and indifference.
and i will be seeing them less than 76 hours from now. in st. louis. 5th row center. I WILL BE SEEING THE OPENING SHOW OF MY BAND’S SUMMER TOUR IN 3 DAYS. ALL THESE SONGS I’VE INTERNALIZED AND LOVED SO QUICKLY AND SO COMPLETELY WILL BE COME LIVE!!!
hehe. that’s great.
and it’s all about the moderate planet
you gotta be cold and be hot for sure
and it’s all about the moderate planet
you’re gonna be blessed and be cursed for sure
and the stars are projectors, yeah
projecting our lives down to this planet earth
I’m pretty excited about the next two weeks. what they have in store for me is not just THREE, yes, fucking THREE dmb shows, but greggie and shellie moving here. and getting to see bill. and scotty and bobbo. and noah. oh, noah. and so many other people.
god. but I’ve seen modest twice this week, and I’ll see dmb before 7 days is complete.
this is doing nothing for the sex drive, of course. but that’s more good news! all my blood tests are back to normal(there was a small problem with some weird enzymes), my blood chemistry is optimal, my cholesterol is 102, blood pressure is perfect, blood sugar is perfect, no std’s, no breast cancer, back on birth control...
i just got really really tired. I’ve had 4 hours of sleep in the past two days... i should probably head that way.
